On June 25, 2020, Texila American University (TAU), Zambia, had conducted a fire drill awareness session for employees. L & J Fire Services had demonstrated fire drill safety procedures and protocols. The sessions helped participants to understand how they could safely evacuate the facility during a fire or emergency.
The session involved demonstration and hands-on experience in helping TAU staff better understand the protocols and safety measures to be followed during an emergency. Fire drills are a vital part of safety procedures. It not only ensures that staff knows what to do in case of a fire but also helps them test how effective they perform, follow protocols, identify shortcomings, and improve them accordingly.
The awareness session also created awareness among the staff on checking on the various emergency equipment such as fire extinguishers, emergency alarms, door retainers, and explaining their purpose and operation to allow staff to utilize them effectively in case of an emergency.
This drill routine also helps staff identify abnormalities, if any, in the equipment and quickly alert the relevant authorities to allow them to take maintenance steps to rectify equipment beforehand and enable staff to be ready to tackle any emergencies. Carrying out this fire drill awareness session is aimed to reduce the level of risk present in the building in case of a fire and make the space safer for both staff and students.
Thanks to L & J Fire Services and the team for their clear demonstration and making it more effective!
